How to Transition to Remote Work at Your Firm

An estimated 25% of professional jobs will be remote by the end of 2022. If your firm hasn’t already transitioned to remote working, now is the perfect time to start.

Our recent article discusses how firms can successfully transition to a remote work environment. Here’s a quick overview of what we covered.

Establish Ground Rules

For remote work to work for your firm, you need to establish some ground rules. Everyone needs to understand:

  • What’s expected of them
  • How they will communicate
  • How they will be held accountable

Additionally, rules should be set for cybersecurity, technology, and equipment.

Will your firm supply employees with equipment or will they need to provide their own?

The more detailed your policies, the better and smoother the transition will be.

Keep Employees Connected

Isolation and loneliness are a big problem for remote workers. Take steps to keep everyone connected.

  • Use platforms like Slack and video chat solutions to allow teams to communicate and collaborate.
  • Host virtual team events that allow everyone to get to know each other.

Creating an inclusive environment can help reduce feelings of loneliness amongst your remote workers.

Use Video Meetings

Rather than hosting conference calls, consider transitioning to video meetings.

Video chat allows for face-to-face conversations that can make meetings feel more personal and productive.

Use Video Meetings

Remote working can make it difficult for employees to draw the line between their work and personal lives. Make sure that your firm is making work-life balance a priority by:

  • Checking in with team members regularly to ensure they’re not feeling burnt out or overwhelmed.
  • Setting rules for communication so teams don’t feel like they are always on the clock.

We go into great detail about each of these points in the full blog article.

Remote working is becoming a standard option in many workplaces, so firms should be taking steps to incorporate this option into their own workflow.
